Book Buddies help to foster a love of reading

Book buddies

Dancing dinosaurs, showstopping sing-alongs, radical reading sessions – they were all part of the launch of The Early Years Book Buddy program on September 5.

Book Buddies is a collective reading program to encourage grown-ups to read to the children in their lives to help foster a love of reading and develop early literacy and language skills.

Logan City Mayor Luke Smith officially launched the program and signed up to be a Book Buddy himself. Other Book Buddies include Councillor Steve Swenson and Councillor Laurie Koranski who have both led reading sessions since the launch event.

Celebrated young people’s author Janeen Brian was there to read her latest book “I’m a Dirty Dinosaur” which was made even more fun by a “mystery” dancing dinosaur who joined in and delighted the crowd.

Festivities also included a performance by Mad Mike and Junior who sang their now legendary First Five Forever song.

Keep your eyes peeled for more news of book buddy collective reading sessions on the Logan Together website and if you are interested in becoming a Book Buddy please email us at info@logantogether.org.au and we’ll let you know what you need to do.
