Brain Development in the Early Years

 The first three years of life is the period of greatest brain development. Beginning from birth, nurturing and stable relationships with caring adults are essential to healthy development.

This webinar will cover an understanding of the brain, what happens when a child is experiencing overwhelming emotions and how we can effectively respond to build capacity around wellbeing and resilience. Implications for educators will be explored, as will strategies to foster sound architecture of the brain.

You will learn:

  • How to build healthy brain architecture as a foundation for learning; 
  • The ‘bottom up approach’ of brain development – the neuro-sequential model;
  • What happens in the brain when a child experiences overwhelming emotions;
  • An understanding of how trauma impacts upon a child’s brain development and how it may present in children; 
  • Strategies to help calm the stress response system; and
  • Practical strategies to ground children who we struggle to connect with.
