Promoting the Importance of Prep

get ready for prep

Starting “big school” is such an important milestone in our children’s lives but for some children and families it’s a daunting, unfamiliar prospect.  While the 2018 school year may seem like a long way away, now is the time for parents and carers to start the enrolment process to ensure a smoother, less stressful start to their child’s school journey.

In collaboration and consultation with community, Logan Together has developed a package of resources to help families work through the logistical steps required to enrol in Prep, including what documentation is needed to complete the enrolment process and lists of primary schools in key areas. Resources have also been developed to highlight key social and developmental skills that are helpful for children to master prior to starting school in 2018.

Logan Together Director Matthew Cox invited service providers, kindergartens, neighbourhood centres and schools to download the resources to remind families to enrol for Prep as well as give them tips to help make the transition easier for their little ones.

A number of education professionals in Logan were part of the consultation.

Getting the enrolment process started with plenty of time to spare can remove some of the stress and enable everyone to focus on it as a positive, fun step in children’s young lives.

Our goal is for as many parents and carers as possible to access these resources so they have time to help their children adapt to the concept of starting school and work on some of the skills they’ll need to make the experience as enjoyable and exciting as possible!

Schools are currently holding orientation days and information sessions to help parents and children familiarise themselves with their chosen school prior to their 2018 start date.

The resources are available for download here – if you know someone who could use them please spread the word!  The Department of Education also has a suite of advice and links to resources here.
