Logan’s First2000 Days Model

A fully co-designed, integrated system for the holistic wellbeing of Logan's children.

What is Logan's First 2000 Days Model?

Logan’s First 2000 Days Model identifies 5 evidence-based initiatives, and 5 enablers of systems change that support the critical early years of a child’s life. By intentionally stacking and connecting these initiatives and enablers, we can create an early childhood development system that is accessible to all children – generating and amplifying life-changing impact.

The community co-designed First 2000 Days Model helps bring the outcomes and impacts identified in our Collective Plan to life. Our Roadmap then describes the indicators that show whether we are making progress in line with our shared vision.

How is Logan’s First 2000 Days Model being implemented?

Logan’s First 2000 Days Model is currently rippling out across Logan, underpinned by a robust co-design process.

At the whole-of-Logan level, the universal elements of each initiative or enabler are co-designed with community and relevant partners. The individual Focus Communities then contextualise the implementation approach within their specific community, once key conditions are met across the ecosystem.

Our 3 key pillars below are inextricably linked to the success of the model and wrap around the place-based approaches.

Our work rests on three pillars

First Nations First

We believe that we need to do the work to strengthen cultural ways of knowing. This will see us shift us from western structures and processes into an intrinsic way of working with a First Nations First approach.

Children at the Heart

We are helping to ensure children growing up in Logan are loved, safe, valued and thriving. We are working to ensure that the voices of our children directly influence the decisions we make together to ensure their strong futures

Community Led

We believe power should be shared equally with our diverse community. Together we will enable community members to lead decision-making and share accountability with the sectors as confident, capable individuals.

Systems Outcomes

Shifting Mind Frames

Logan Together is working alongside philanthropy and government to shift thinking about the systems enablers that underpin Logan’s First 2000 Days (The glue). These enablers play a crucial role in creating the conditions needed for the First 2000 Days model to succeed.

Resource Alignment

Resource alignment between partners in the Logan Together Collective Impact movement has resulted in flexible funding models for the system enablers.

Systems Map

The presentation of the systems map which highlights the barriers and opportunities that exist in Logan’s early childhood landscape has sparked conversations about integration and increased shared decision-making opportunities and information sharing across agencies and partners to support shared outcomes.

System of Connectors

A system of community connectors is being formalised to make it easier for families to navigate the systems across Logan, as well as improve system integration and opportunities for two-way learning between community and service systems.

Partners

Logan Together partners are leveraging relationships to address barriers and align around broader system responses in areas including Maternal and Child Health, Child Safety and Health Prevention.

Community Voice

Logan’s community voice has become a central component of State Government decisions and policy-making in areas of Domestic Family Violence, access to ECECs, settlement, social infrastructure and economic development.

Elevate National Conversations

Logan Together has helped elevate national conversations about place-based approaches, contributing to a deeper understanding of the complexity and long-term commitment this work requires across government, private industry, and policy and advocacy spaces.
